Joey is a fierce athlete and welcomes the competition he receives from his sporting community. Born with Spina Bifida, he was introduced to adaptive sports in the summer of 2011, when he attended ASRA Jr. Wheelchair Sports Camp for the very first time at age 6. He has attended every year since. Over the years, Joey’s love of athletics has tripled. Not only is he doing the things he sees his able bodied friends and family do, he is being able to do them with people just like him. He is a natural on the recumbent hand cycle, can throw a perfect spiral, and excels in any sport he tries.
Joey continues to participate in ASRA sport camps and athletics. This past summer he travelled to the National Junior Disability Championships (NJDC) in New Jersey. He competed in Archery, Javelin and Shot Put. He is ranked nationally in all three events for his age and classification.
He is excited that ASRA is starting a Track and Field season and is looking forward to competing in upcoming events in Arizona and Los Angeles.
Joey wants to play on a college wheelchair basketball team and he wants to go to the Olympics to compete in javelin, shot put and archery. Keep an eye on him! He has what it takes to make his goals come true.
